I'm stunned. Just home from King's Valley - We talked about Joe on the ride home. He was one of many pleasant surprises and friendhips I found last year in my first season of racing. I only got to know him for one season, but the knowledge he passed on to me made me a better racer.
He told me how to read a points race, then nipped me in a sprint the next time we raced one together. He had a great way of answering a racing question indirectly, by just making you think about it a different way.
I was really looking forward to seeing him this season - he was the cheerful gracious older racer that I aspire to someday become.
Rest in peace Joe Hailey.
