Joe/Accidents/Insurance

I've tried to think of something fitting to say about Joe since I heard

about the accident and have been unable to sort through my thoughts.

Joe Hailey, 58, a long time OBRA member, even though he lived in BC was

involved in a crash at the end of a road race in BC. Three riders were

left unconscious and Joe was Life Flighted to the hospital where he died a

day of two later. Joe has been racing here since before I was involved in

Oregon racing. I always thought that he was older than dirt, he had the

appearance as he had snow white hair (what was left of it), pale, pale skin

and always road a bright pink bike. These later years Joe only came down

to race at the track or in events that were not too long or did not have a

hill. At the track he had one place where he always set up, it was right

next to the judging stand. Joe would always challenge a call, no matter

what rider was involved. He used to just bug the hell out of me,

questioning rules. I will miss that. I will miss alot of things. I will

miss Joe.

Our sport can be dangerous, always remember that. Don't race if you can't

take the risk. Don't race if you do not have insurance.
