clipless fears

Hello,

I suppose that it might be possible that there might be a certain leg/
knee/ankle/foot combo that will never fit clipless pedals.

However, I'd suggest that you get a fitting.

After long distances I'd always experienced some minor knee pain and
just dismissed it as part of the experience. After a century that
left my knees hurting so badly that I couldn't ride a bike I
scheduled a cleat-fitting at Bike Gallery. I've been pain-free since.

There are plenty of options in Portland for fittings, but I've only
had experience with Bike Gallery.

Note: At the time of the cleat fitting, I felt that my general fit
was pretty good as I wasn't experiencing any pain elsewhere. Since
that time, I've also had a complete bike fitting and it's only been
over-exertion that leaves me hurting. :)

Good luck!

Brian

Continuing my first season of group racing, I raced last night at PIR short-track on my flat pedals with BMX shoes. For this kind of stuff it's fine, but since I want to try 'cross in the fall I realize I'll need to do something about my shoes. Vans won't work in the mud!

Lots of folks have recommended that I try clipless The last time I tried clipless was over a decade ago (time-trialling with Speedplay Frogs) and I had so many issues with painful knees and hot-spots in my shoes that I had to go back to flat pedals within weeks.

Am I missing something here? Or could it be that clipless pedals really AREN'T for everyone? I'm also considering sticking with flat pedals and wearing modified soccer shoes or something. I welcome comments. Thanks.
