not to be rude...

No offense taken butMt Bike Oregon is not a race and it brings people from all over the world, not just Oregon, same with Cycle Oregon...can't compare MBO/CO to a race
Plus events in Bend do well because of the generally activate population. When I helped OBRA at reg at the Chainbreaker one year we sold 82 one days to people from Bend...those people will NOT race outside of Bend.

I put on races for 12 years and the facts are the facts

Take Care

Randy D,
it seems that you scapegoating the situation. In recent years, such events as Cherry Blossom, Cascade, Cycle-Oregon, and MTB Oregon have only gained popularity. I do not see travel proximity or time of year having anything to do with the "downfall of summer XC racing." owl humping aside, CYCLOCROSS is the only real discipline that matters to a whole bunch of us in OBRA land! 'nuff said.

Here's my 2 cents-

I'd really like to see some growth in MTB and have been working with
Mike Ripley to see how we can make that vision come true.

We are looking at many different models- including seeing if we can
get a high school series like the NCNCA puts on.

CX is very good for racing- and I would encourage folks to give it a
shot. It's also great training for all those cyclocrossers out there.

I would have to ask how many summer races you have put on Todd? I know Randy has put on many XC summer races over the years. Cycle Oregon and MTB Oregon (Randy is the founder) are very different events and don't compare to XC racing. The same people don't do them. They both also draw people from all over the world. I also know Randy was just stating facts. We all know CX is very good for Oregon racing. I don't think we need to make this a XC vs CX thing. I would suggest if we have a suggestion on how to change the amount of summer XC racers we bring them to Mike. Get involved. Be a part of the solution or let it go. It seems alot of time is wasted on this topic every year.
