Greetings OBRA racers!
In case you didn't receive my earlier email, here are some updates ahead of tonight's short track race # 6.
Tonight's race will be a hot one, but the plan is to turn on some of the mega-sprinklers on the infield to give racers some relief from the heat and to add another interesting element to the course. Still, make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and bring a water bottle or camel bag. We'll have plenty of ice-cooled water and free Hammer Nutrition recovery drink on hand to help you hydrate before, during and after your race.
Here are some other things I like to pass along:
1) Series standings
The current series standings (after 5 races) are posted at:
http://www.portlandracing.com/2009-series-standings.html
Two more races to collect series points (if you finish in the top-15 in your category) and remember: only the best 6 out of 7 races count towards the final standings.
2) Bump Riding 101 - a must-see video!
Check out this sweet video clip by Scott Barker, featuring up-and-coming Pro racer James Crow cruising over the sandy bumps as if his bike is exempt from gravity: http://vimeo.com/5332811
Now that's the spirit: Go hard and have fun! If you hang around until the last race tonight, you can see James live in action and try to get an up-close look of all his magic moves. Also, check the nice write-up and cool photo slideshow posted by Jonathan Maus on BikePortland.org.
3) Queen of the Night & other weekly prizes!
Cat 2 Women short track racer Laura Trace has won our fifth Bike N Hike Queen of the Night trophy. Her name was drawn among all women who raced last week. To find out if you are the lucky winner of one of the other weekly prizes, provided by our sponsors Hopworks Urban Brewing and Portland Design Works, click here: http://www.portlandracing.com/weekly-prizes.html.
4) Next week's Short Track Finals and Team Relay.
Mark your calendar for the mother of all Short Track Race Nights, which in good tradition will feature our wild & crazy ultra-short-track team relay race "under the big lights." You have until Friday to submit your team!

That's it. See you tonight!

PS: the friendly folks of Northwest Trail Alliance - who have been hosting the fun skills course at this year's short track races - are organizing this coming weekend the Tour de Tillamook, a family-friendly - and very budget-friendly - mountain bike weekend for all levels of riders in the heart of the Tillamook State Forest, about an hour west of Portland. If you have never ridden the fabulous Wilson River Trail, this is your chance to discover it, while being guided by the folks who helped build and maintain the trail.
