Hula Kids Triathlon and Triathlete Clinic hosted at Pacific University
A new event for the annual HulaMan half triathlon and half marathon is the
Hula Kids triathlon with age brackets for children 6-15 years old. The Hula
Kids triathlon is taking place at 10am on Saturday, Aug. 15. A free
triathlon clinic hosted by Cliff English will begin later in the afternoon
at 3:30pm. Both events are at the Pacific University Lincoln Park Stadium in
Forest Grove.
The Hula Kids triathlon will have shortened distances for the bike, run and
swim, which will be a ½ mile bike ride, 400 yard run and a 25 yard swim in
the pool.
Were introducing the kids event to spark interest in the next generation,
as well as encourage family participation and promote athletic activities,
said Nick Howell, owner of Athletes Lounge.
The triathlon clinic sponsored by The Portland Triathlon Club and Speed Shot
Racing features training tips for long course training and discussions about
the latest trends in coaching, including periodization. Cliff is one of the
worlds premiere high performance triathlon coaches and hell be accompanied
at the clinic with professional triathlete Samantha McGlone.
Advance registration packet pick up is mandatory and competitors can pick up
their packet from 12-6pm on Friday, Aug. 14, at Athletes Lounge at 2600 NW
Vaughn St., Portland, OR 97210, or at the Lincoln Park Stadium from 12-5pm
on Saturday, Aug. 15.
The annual HulaMan half triathlon and half marathon is taking place on
Sunday, Aug. 16, and consists of a 1.2-mile swim at Henry Hagg Lake, a
challenging 56-mile bike ride through Washington County wine country and a
13.1-mile run through the farmland surrounding Forest Grove. A luau feast
and awards ceremony will be held at 3pm.
