Josh Connor is a young rider from Alturas, California. I know it's =
California, but you can see Alturas from the Oregon border!
Anyway, Josh began racing at 5 yrs of age by riding his bike from his =
mountain-side home, through cow pastures, and up mountain tops (much of =
it alone, which shows how self-disciplined this young man is). His =
father Rick, not unlike any gifted athletes father, has hauled Josh =
around the country so Josh could beat the legs off most of his =
competition. Josh has grown to be one of the most gracious and friendly =
(as well as rapid - my God, that kid is fast!) young men I know (good =
job, Rick), raised with the same high morals and values as the Van =
Schoonhoven rockets. Now Josh is in his first year of college, having to =
balance his education with his love of cycling. Josh has a very good =
chance of medaling in any discipline he enters, but especially the rr =
and tt. He needs airfare, a room, meals, entry, and likely a rental =
car. The last time Josh and his dad went to the east coast for Junior =
Nats (Conn.), it set them back about $2000. Rick was thinking it would =
run about half that this year, since Josh will go alone this time. =
Junior development travel grants have been looked into, but will not be =
available for this venture. Junior Nats are the first weekend of July. =
If you think you or your club might be able to assist in sending Josh to =
Junior Nationals, it would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure. If =
everyone kicks in a little, it won't hurt any of us, and it could bring =
another stars and stripes jersey back to Oregon (I know he lives in =
Calif, but it's just spittin' distance from the border, and he's raced =
mostly in Oregon anyway). He could really pull this off! Ask Mike and =
Candi. They've watched Josh for years too!
Any and all financial assistance can be mailed to Rick Connor, P.O. Box =
1591, Alturas, Calif. 96101
Thanks for all your help.
