Re: CAT 3 Portland Twilight Follow Up an d Concern‏

This is REALLY getting old. And im tired of it filling my inbox.

In
cycling, crashes happen. People over cook corners, take bad lines, cut
each other off. And with how cycling is one of the few sports that
allows spectators such a close proximity to the athletes, sometimes
they get in the way as well. It happens on every level from amateur to
the tour de france. This race has a reputation for crashing, in both
the cat 3's and the pro1/2's. There is yet to be a year where neither
field bites the dust cause of this crazy course, yet fun and exciting
environment and event to compete in.

Let me give you some prime
examples of spectators interfering (and some just plane stupid, no
reason for going down situations as well) with racers at a way higher
level then us

And finally, this link....just for a little humor

Im
not saying that its acceptable for it to occur, but as i stated earlier
you add high speeds to spectators being within close proximity of the
athletes in an uncontrolled environment, shit happens. The only way to
solve it is to have a boarder between the fans and the course, and that
is not cycling and would kill the sport and the passion that goes along
with it. If expect never to crash, never to have a specator interfere,
you better just stay on a weekend training ride. Because its not a
matter of if, its a matter of when it will occur. And when you step out
to the starting line, thats the risk in which you are willign to take,
in any cycling discipline.

Now put this subject to rest. Hope the guys who went down heal up quickly.
