fave portland area cx events?

Somebody said the RadRacing GP course had a run-up that rivals Barlow. It doesn't. It's far superior to Barlow. The Rad race is held at Steilacoom, and it takes huge guts to race Steilacoom. Every true cross racer in Portland should do it at least once. Barlow may be fun in some ways, but it isn't really a run-up. It's more like some kind of freak show. Steilacoom, on the other hand, is a true run-up, just unbelievably hard and long. Or as Trebon called it, "retarded hard." And once you've cleared the run-up and you can jump back on your bike, you're still going uphill! So, yeah, do Steilacoom. And the SeaTac race with all the sand, (is that South SeaTac?), is also incredibly hard and fun. Whatever, if you can hit a Seattle race or two you won't regret it.

And I love all the local races, too! Don't get me wrong! One or two of us in Portland though, maybe, possibly need to expand our horizons a bit, though. Just maybe.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] fave portland area cx events?

Hi OBRA,

To change the subject briefly off of jackasses who drop tennis balls into
races, I'm planning on hitting some cross races this year. Really psyched
and excited to ride and race and check out the lively OR cross scene. Seems
like an awesome community.

If you were going to hit... lets say six cross events in OR or WA this
season, which would be your picks? I'm thinking fun courses, fun events
etc. I know the Cross Crusade races are faves, but what others are really
special?

DISCUSS!

And thanks!

The Rad Racing GP the day after Star Crossed has a run up that rivals the Barlow one. Makes for a nice weekend.

Depends on what you're looking for:

CX Nationals (the big show...why not)
Hood River Double Cross (nice course/venue/location to race/visit)
Willamette Valley Cross - Heiser Farm - Great course, low key, excellent venue to bring the family, especially if you've got young kids (pumpkin cannon, hay rides etc..)
Clatsop County Fairgrounds (Astoria) - Halloween Cross Festival. Not my favorite course, but it's a spectacle, if you're into that.

Battle at Barlow is a good course and a lot of fun. You can't beat that run
up, period!
