To OBRA-

I apologize for insinuating that these products for sale are defective. My only thought was to prevent people from pulling a fast one on our cross crusaders. I apologize for reposting a personal RESPONSE to my email. It was inappropriate. I was a clown. I've already overstepped.

My sincere apologies,

Hi Erik,

Actually, I set the record last year at 29:22 - I was 31 seconds slower this year, but still pleased that I went under 30:00.

Thanks, Jenny

Congratulations to Jenny Slawta, who flew up the mountain to set a new
women's course record of 29:53.

Fastest men's time of the day: 25:28, *Davis Shepherd* (Hutch's-OIC)
Fastest women's time of the day: 29:53, *Jenny Slawta* (Land Shark)

Senior Men's Champion:* Andrew Boone* (Therapeutic Associates Cycling/GENR8)
Senior Women's Champion:* Jenny Slawta* (Land Shark)

Hugh Givens used to organize a stage race at Mt. Hood that covered almost
the same exact course. Though the records were lost, it is believed Doug
Smith (Wheaties Schwinn) did it in about 23:24, though his finish line was a
bit lower on the hill. Todd Gogolski (Crest) in about 24:30, and his
finish line was a little further UP the hill.

As far as the OBRA race, The best times I found since 2001 were:

Men: Billy Truelove, 25:11
Women: Jenny Slawta, 29:53

The Co-Motion Classic Tandem Stage Race is this weekend! Pre-registration numbers excellent and we expect it to be the best attended tandem race in years!

You can register as late as friday (at Co-Motion) between 1 and 4PM.

Details are here...

http://www.co-motion.com/CCTandemRace.html

There are also two social rides that are open to everybody - racing or not - this friday...

It's a great way to unwind after the long car drive that some of you are making to Eugene - and a good way to meet some of the folks you'll be racing with in the coming weekend. And all are welcome. Still on the fence about racing? Come do the social ride on friday morning and meet some of your competition. Then decide.

Details: "This 25 mile moderately paced pleasure cruise is open to Co-Motion Classic competitors, and anyone else who wants to enjoy a great loop that will give you taste of the Willamette Valley's scenery just Northwest of Eugene. We will pedal away from Co-Motion at 10AM and/or 5PM."

Dwan will lead a group ride from Co-Motion at 10AM.

Sal will lead another group ride from Co-Motion at 5PM.

And of course, both rides are optional.

Looking forward to seeing you all on friday!

I am trying to figure out if sport legs just enables you to deal with lactic acid better, therefore allowing you to train harder. Or does it have some other benefit. I don't just want to use sports legs just to find out I fried myself because I felt so good and now I need to recover, I can do that without sport legs. In particular I am wondering what the ingredient Lactate will do for me. I am familiar and comfortable with the other ingredients.
Anyone have theories on this?

I have to say they are doing a very good job of working us riders hard (of course the weather is a partner). This week the course was WAY faster than last week which was very twisty and a killer of momentum (hey I ride a single speed for short track..I love momentum). Cross bikes would/did do well last night on that course. The bmx track was much better for me as the sections we rode were different direction than last week... maybe that was just in my mind. They are also working well with the other users of the area (bmx/volleyball/skateboarding). Good access to ride the course before racing and good places to warm up and park right at the course. I do not even lock anything up in my truck.
While heading South, I was temporarily stuck in traffic on I-5. I noticed the Vander Veer Center on my right and considered stopping in for a quick treatment/surgery hoping to enter the Cat 3 Junior race... but alas, speed on the Freeway soon sucked me forward toward the Fairgrounds and away from the "Forever Young" palace. They probably would have wanted me to shave the gray hair off my face anyway. Maybe next week I will have more courage or be even more stupid than normal.
I do think those showing up (at Salem Short Track...not Vander Veer) are getting a very good workout, fun racing and the atmosphere is relaxed. Well worth the drive if you can work it into the schedule.

Wow, could that name be any longer? Jeff and crew put on another fun, if not hot and dusty night of racing down here in Salem. One more week left, with two races -- Monday and Saturday...get down here!

Minor correction: Jenny Slawta actually set the hillclimb course record LAST
YEAR with an even more smokin' time of 29:22. Gotta give Jenny props for
that.

So we've got 25:11 for men, 29:22 for women, and 23:24 for champion of the
universe.

Thanks,
Erik

else rolled over all night:

Less than 4 weeks to the first race in the series
http://www.obra.org/pdfs/Oregon_Junior_Cross_Series.pdf
We are still waiting on confirmation if Barlow will be in the series or not.
Stay tuned.

Redline has stepped up and we will have a complete 24" Cross Bike grand
prize for the 10-12 Category.
A new Kona frame and Fork for the 16-18 category, and a TBD frame/fork for
the 13-15 group. Beyond that there will be over $ 1,500 dollars of awards
and Swag including kid sized gloves, hats, hoodies, beanies, etc generously
provided by Kona Bicycles. We look forward to seeing you at the series!
Remember - Participation is just as important as finish placing for awards.
Everyone has a chance for the grand prize awards.

Race 1: Sunday Sept 13 Eugene Psycho Cross
http://www.obra.org/flyers/2009/psycho_cross.html Check out the schedule -
Junior race is at Noon - plenty of time to drive down from Portland. If this
is your first time to Cross come early. There will be a cross clinic at 9:30
am on each of the race days. We will teach you and your kids how to do it on
race day. It is that easy to get started.

I highly recommend the Alpenrose Cross Clinics. This great series has
excellent coaching with real emphasis on beginners and kids. Be sure to take
advantage of this. Erik Tonkin, Team S&M and crew do a fantastic job:
http://www.obra.org/flyers/2009/cross_clinics.html

If you live in Eugene Kori Kunz and the Poplollies put on a set of Cross
Clinics:
WHAT: Free clinic on basics of riding cyclocross: dismount, mount,
barriers, run-ups
WHEN: Wednesday nights, August 26th, Sept. 2nd, and Sept. 9th 6:00 to
8:30
WHERE: Crest Elementary School Grounds at 1155 Crest Drive
WHAT TO BRING: Self, mountain or cross bike, water, donations if you're so
inclined
BEWARE: IF YOU HAVE TO BRING YOUR CAR, BE SURE TO PARK ON THE STREET SO YOU
DON'T INTERFERE WITH SCHOOL TRAFFIC (parents will be picking kids up from
after school programs). The principal suggested we could park in the upper
lot, but if you must park there, be aware that the parking lot gate will be
LOCKED at 8:30--DON'T GET LOCKED IN!

In Corvallis, Willamette Valley Cycling & Pacific Power will have two Cross
Clinics Sept 14th, and 21st, in Avery Park (south side by picnic area) from
5 pm to 6:30 pm.

In Salem make sure to attend the last two LifeSource Natural Foods Salem
MTB Short Track Series http://buylocalcycling.com/events.html
These kid/junior friendly races are a great opportunity & prep for the
Junior Cyclocross Series.

Thanks, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me!

After a bunch of parts swapping between bikes and selling a couple of frames, I have a few extra parts to liquidate.

* $175/obo Campy Record 10s Ergo shifters. Carbon levers. Some minor flaking of the clear coat on the left lever, but otherwise functionally perfect. I would rate an 8 cosmetically.

* $30/obo Campy Veloce Skeleton Brakes. Black. All the matching parts went to a cross bike and these are left over. Pads have good life left in them. I give these an 8 rating.

* $60/obo Campy Chorus (not skeleton) brakes. Silver. Like new. Saw very little use on a single speed before removing. Pads are like new. I give these an 9.5 rating.

* $150/obo Campy Chorus 10s Crankset. 175mm arms, 53/39 rings. Includes Matching English BB with 102mm axle. This crankset has the 4 arm drive side crank where the 5th bolt threads into the back of the crank arm. I will sell crankset separately, but I will not sell the bb separately unless the crankset is already sold.

Thanks for looking. Email with questions or offers.
