highway funding

Here is the official document from ODOT:
http://gis.oregon.gov/ODOT/COMM/Key_Facts/Transportation_Funding.pdf
A few arguments that I like:
Most people that ride bikes on the road also drive cars, so they pay anyway.
Cyclists cause almost no damage to roads, so they shouldn't have to pay
as much.
People that don't drive are reducing the number of cars on the road,
thereby reducing traffic for the people who continue to drive. They
should be thanking us.
Good luck,
-Tony

You might point out as a counter argument how much you do pay into the
education system and how much direct benefit you receive.

And of course pedestrians don't pay for sidewalks and crosswalks
either.

The list goes on... and on... and on... kind of like this topic.

A non-cyclist relative of mine is making the argument that bikes don't
pay their share of road construction and maintenance costs and
therefore don't belong on the road.

Does anyone know how much of highway funding comes from fuel taxes and
how much comes from property tax or other non fuel/non licensing
sources?

A link to the "facts" would be appreciated.

Kevin, I don't have the Oregon-specific facts at my fingertips, and the BTA probably will on Tuesday, but in the meantime I'd encourage anyone in range of the OBRA listserv to check out all the information available on the League of American Bicyclists web page. This is an old and tired argument. Specifically look here:

and for a good general discussion of many issues check this out:
