Most bikes don't come with handlebars and a pad on the rear rack for little persons, who might not be super-careful with their feets. But I would think their parents would think to put on a shield, maybe they aren't paranoid like I was.

If this were April 1st, I would have thought it was a Fool's Day joke.
Looking at pictures of the bike, I can't see how someone would "get their
feet caught in the rear wheel", any more so than any other bike. Is this
one of those "sue them because the coffee was hot and scalded me" scams?

I'm afraid now, if I stick my fingers in my front wheel I might lose them.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Tikit Folding Bicycles

Units: About 3,800

Manufacturer: Green Gear Cycling Inc., dba Bike Friday, of Eugene, Ore.

Hazard: The tikit bike's handlebar stem can break and cause the rider to lose control, posing a fall hazard to the consumer.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received six reports of breaking handlebar stems, resulting in two reports of injuries including scrapes, bruises and a head laceration that required stitches.

Description: This recall involves all models of tikit brand folding bicycles. The 16-inch wheel custom bicycles were sold in various colors. The Bike Friday tikit brand decal is affixed to the bike frame.

Sold by: Bike Friday direct and dealers nationwide from January 2007 through September 2012 for between $900 and $5,000.

Manufactured in: U.S.A.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycle and contact Bike Friday to schedule a free repair.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bicycles

Units: About 12,000

Distributor: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif.

Manufacturer: Kinesis, of China

Hazard: The front fork can break, posing fall and injury hazards to riders.

Incidents/Injuries: Specialized has received four reports of front forks breaking, resulting in facial fractures, head and shoulder injuries and cuts.

Description: This recall involves some 2008 and 2009 models women's and men's Globe model bicycles. Recalled models include the Globe Elite, Globe Sport, Globe Sport Disc, Globe Centrum Comp, Globe Centrum Elite, Globe City 6, Globe Vienna 3, Globe Vienna 3 Disc, Globe Vienna 4, Globe Vienna Deluxe 3, Globe Vienna Deluxe 4, Globe Vienna Deluxe 5 and Globe Vienna Deluxe 6 bicycles. The bicycles were sold in various colors, including gun, silver, black, khaki, navy, bone, blue, charcoal, burgundy and gold. The brand name "Specialized" is on the lower frame tube and the model name is on various locations on the bicycle frame.

Sold at: Authorized Specialized retailers nationwide from July 2007 to July 2012 for between $550 and $1,100.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding these bicycles and return them to an authorized Specialized retailer for the free installation of a free replacement fork.

Name of Product: 4ZA Threadless Carbon Bicycle Handlebar Stem

Units: About 105

Distributor: Sinclair Imports, of Reno, Nev., and Quality Bicycle Products, of Bloomington, Minn.

Manufacturer: Race Productions NV, Belgium

Hazard: The bicycle handlebar stems can crack or break, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm received one report of a handlebar stem breaking resulting in minor injuries.

Description: The recall involves all 4ZA 31.8 threadless bicycle handlebar stems sold as individual aftermarket components. The stems are black and have the words "4ZA Cycling Performance" painted on the carbon extension between the steerer clamp and handlebar clamp. The recalled stems range in extension lengths from 90mm to 130mm, approximately 3.5 to 5 inches.

Sold at: The stems were sold at specialty bicycle retailers and via websites from January 2005 through April 2010 for about $59.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using their bicycles and contact the bicycle retailers where the stems were purchased to obtain a free replacement stem. Other bicycle shops can handle the replacement process by contacting the manufacturer's current distributor, Quality Bicycle Products, Inc.

Specialized Bicycle Components Recalls Bike Brake Levers Due to Crash Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Name of Product: Bicycle Brake Levers

Units: About 600

Importer: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., Morgan Hill, Calif.

Hazard: The adjuster cap and brake cable can slide out of position and make the brakes non-operational. This can cause a rider to lose control of the bicycle and crash.

Incidents/Injuries: Specialized is aware of one incident worldwide in which the rider lost the function of both brakes. The firm has received no reports of injury or property damage.

Description: The recalled products are Tektro TL-83 brake levers. TL-83 levers are designed exclusively for use with aerodynamic handlebars (aerobars) sold as original equipment on 2010 and 2011 S-Works Shiv bicycle frame modules and 2012 S-Works Shiv TT bicycle frame modules. They are also sold as aftermarket service parts for these modules. The levers are modified versions of the TL-720 brake lever. They are black aluminum and have a quick release slot at the top of the lever arm. Model number "TL-720" can be read on the side of the lever arm when braking action is applied.

Sold at: Authorized Specialized Bicycle Components retailers from April 2010 to February 2012. The bicycle frame modules sold for between $5,500 and $6,100. The brake levers sold for about $80 as service parts.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding bicycle frame modules equipped with TL-83 brake levers and return the levers or modules to authorized Specialized Bicycle Components retailers for free replacement brake levers.

Hazard: The suspension fork's internal support tubes can break and cause the rider to lose control, fall and crash.

Incidents/Injuries: SR Suntour has received 12 reports of incidents with the suspension forks, including two injuries involving a laceration and a chipped tooth.

Description: This recall involves the following GT, Giant and Trek bicycles with SR Suntour suspension forks. "SR Suntour" and the date code are printed on the back of the fork crown.

Hazard: The pedal body can break or crack during use, causing the rider to lose control and posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Performance has received three reports of the pedals breaking. No injuries have been reported.

Description: Forté Pro Carbon Road Pedals are sold in sets of two bicycle pedals that attach to cycling shoes. The pedal body is black and is made of lightweight carbon injected thermoplastic. The axle is a black and made of chromium molybdenum steel with a black steel axle. The front, top of the pedal has "Carbon" printed in red; the top middle has "EPS-R" embossed in the body with the "R" in red and on the top rear of the pedal the word "Forté" printed in white. The outer edge of the pedal has the Forté logos, crossed F's, in white. The catalog number, 50-8128, is used in all catalogs.

Sold at: Performance's website, catalogs and Performance retail stores from February 2011 through October 2011 for about $100.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these bicycle pedals and contact Performance to obtain a full refund.

Weehoo Recalls Bike Trailers Due to Fall and Crash Hazards

Name of Product: Weehoo iGo Bicycle Pedal Trailers

Units: About 2,700

Manufacturer: Weehoo Inc., of Golden, Colo.

Hazard: The receiver on the trailer's seat post hitch can crack and cause the trailer to detach, posing fall and crash hazards to the child in the seat.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and Weehoo have received one report of the trailer's receiver cracking while in use. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves 2011 Weehoo iGo bicycle trailers manufactured between April 2011 and July 2011. The trailer has a steel frame with an adjustable seat for passengers 38 to 52 inches tall, two pedals with straps, an enclosed sprocket and chain, a 20-inch wheel, two pannier pockets, a flagpole and a flag. The seat, pannier pockets, and flag are made of red, heavy-duty nylon. The pannier pockets and the flag have the word "Weehoo" and the logo printed on them in reflective material. The serial numbers for the recalled trailers contain the letter "D" and can be found on the underside of the iGo frame, by the pedals.

Sold at: Bicycle retail stores nationwide between April 2011 and July 2011 for about $390.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled iGo trailers and contact Weehoo for the repair. Consumers will receive a steel reinforcement sleeve to be installed over the receiver.

Units: About 100

Hazard: The bicycle rack's mounting bracket can crack or break. When this happens, the rack can fall onto the bicycle's front wheel, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a rack mounting bracket breaking while the rider was on the bicycle, resulting in minor cuts.

Description: This recall involves Civia Loring bicycle racks. They have black aluminum tubing with bamboo panels and mount to the bicycle's front fork. The word "Civia" is printed on the rack's side panels.

Sold at: Independent bicycle stores nationwide from December 2009 through February 2011 for about $175.

Salsa Cycles Recalls Handlebar Stems Due to Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Salsa Handlebar Stems

Units: About 6,500 units

Importer: Salsa Cycles, a subsidiary of Quality Bicycle Products, of Bloomington, Minn.

Hazard: The handlebar stems can crack or break, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: Salsa Cycles has received one report of a handlebar stem breaking that resulted in minor injuries.

Description: This recall involves all CroMoto S.U.L. 25.4 and 26.0 threadless handlebar stems and all CroMoto S.U.L. 26.0 quill handlebar stems sold as individual aftermarket units after April 1, 2010. The handlebar stems are black and have the word "Salsa" painted on the extension. The recalled handlebar stems have a hash mark on the inside of the stem bar clamp area.

Sold at: Bicycle retailers and websites from April 2010 through October 2010 for about $65.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should stop riding bicycles containing these handlebar stems immediately and contact an authorized Salsa Bicycles dealer for a free inspection and a handlebar stem replacement or a full refund.

Name of Product: Redline D640 Bicycles

Units: About 200

Importer: Seattle Bike Supply of Kent, Wash.

Hazard: The head tube can separate from the frame, causing the rider to lose control and fall. This poses a risk of serious injury.

Incidents/Injuries: Seattle Bikes is aware of eight reports of head tubes separating from the frame, including four reports of minor scrapes and cuts.

Description: This recall involves all 2008 Redline D640 bicycles. The bicycles were sold in black and have aluminum frames. "REDLINE" is written down the frame's tube. The model number is written on the frame's top tube.

Sold at: Bicycle specialty stores nationwide from December 2007 to May 2010 for about $900

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact a local Redline bicycle dealer to receive a free frame replacement.

Name of Product: Full Speed Ahead BB30 Gossamer crank sets installed on
numerous makers of bicycles

Units: About 9,300

Importer: Full Speed Ahead, of Woodinville, Wash.

Manufacturer: TH Industries, of Taiwan

Hazard: If the fixing bolt is over-tightened on the non-drive crank arm,
the bolt shoulder can crack or break. If this occurs, the non-drive arm
can fall off the bicycle causing the rider to crash and suffer injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: Full Speed Ahead has received 11 reports of
incidents, including two cases where injuries have been reported.

Description: A crank set is the component of the bicycle that the chain
and pedals attach to for pedaling. The recalled models are either
painted black with "Gossamer" printed in white on the arm or white with
"Gossamer" printed in black on the arm. There are two drive gears
(referred to as "double") on the crank set. The recalled crank arms were
assembled as original equipment on the following bicycle models:

Gossamer BB30 non-drive crank arms that are included in the recall have
serial numbers beginning with 10B, 10C, and 10D. Serial numbers are
located on the backside of the crank arm by pedal threads (see pictures
below).

Note: MegaExo model Gossamer cranksets and Gossamer BB30 cranksets with
three drive gears (referred to as "triple" cranksets) are not involved
in this recall.

Sold as: Assembled as standard original equipment on the bicycles
listed. Sold by independent bicycle retailers nationwide from February
2010 through October 2010.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles that have the
recalled crank arm sets and return bicycle to the dealer. The dealer
will install the new non-drive crank arm free of charge.

recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal
to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Revl carbon bicycle brakes

Units: About 500

Importer: Perigeum Development Inc., dba The Hive, of Petaluma, Calif.

Hazard: The cable clamping area of the bicycle brakes can crack over
time, causing the brakes to fail. This could pose a fall or crash hazard
to the cyclist.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves black Revl carbon road bicycle brakes
with date codes 41B, 44B, 45B, 53B, 13C and 16C printed on the underside
of the carbon brake arms. "Revl" is printed on the brake.

Sold at: Bicycle specialty stores nationwide from September 2009 through
August 2010 for about $390 per set.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should stop using their bicycles with these recalled
brakes and contact The Hive for replacement parts and instruction to
repair their brakes or contact their retailer to perform the repair free
of charge.

Bicycles Recalled by Easton Sports; Stem Failure Poses Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary
recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Bicycles with EA30 Stems

Units: About 6,400

Importer: Easton Sports, of Scotts Valley, Calif.

Hazard: The bicycle stem can crack and cause the rider to lose control,
posing a risk of serious injury if the rider falls.

Incidents/Injuries: The company received a report of a stem breaking,
causing a minor injury to the rider.

Description: This recall involves all Raleigh 2007, XXIX 700c MTN,
RX1.0, Diamondback 2007, Mission, and Sortie bicycles with EA30 stems.
The EA30 stems are black with white-and-gray graphics and feature a
four-bolt stem face cap."EA30" is printed on the stem. EA30 stems sold
as aftermarket items are included in this recall.

Sold through: Independent bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2007
through August 2009 for between $500 and $1,200. Aftermarket stems were
sold from August 2007 through September 2009 for about $30.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycles and
contact any authorized Easton Sports for a free replacement stem.

Bicycle Chains and Chain Connector Links Recalled by SRAM Due to Fall
Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary
recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: 10 Speed SRAM Bicycle Chains with PowerLock connector
links

Units: About 24,000

Manufacturer: SRAM LLC, of Chicago, Ill.

Hazard: The recalled PowerLock connector links, used on bicycle chains,
are brittle and can crack, allowing the chain to separate from the
bicycle and posing a fall hazard to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: One incident has been reported in the United States
and three outside. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves SRAM PowerLock connector links, which
are sold individually, on 10-speed bicycle chains and as original
equipment on some bicycles. The recalled PowerLock connector links are
identified by a date code of M or N, which is located on the side of the
PowerLock connector link. 10-speed SRAM chains that were equipped with
recalled PowerLock connector links include the following chain model
numbers: PC-1030, PC-1050, PC-1070, PC-1090 and PC-1090R. The recalled
chains were also installed on some Guru, Surly, Salsa, BMC, Serotta,
Seven, and Ridley brand complete bicycles. The individual PowerLock
connectors and bike chains with these connectors were sold from January
2009 through August 2009; bicycles with affected chains were sold from
April 2009 through August 2009.

Sold at: Specialty bicycle retailer stores nationwide from January 2009
through August 2009. PowerLock connector links were sold separately for
about $5 or as part of 10-speed chains for between $35 and $85.

Manufactured in: Portugal

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled PowerLock
connectors, chains and bicycles with these connectors and contact their
SRAM retailer for a free replacement PowerLock connector link.
