Meet The Team Ride Incident

A big thank you to Sirikit for leading the women's meet the team ride today - A great turn out, 38 of us rode out to Sauvies Island - We had an incident (luckily with minor bodily injury), but thought it was time to remind anyone planning on riding with more of these this month: Don't get too distracted socializing to forget basic bike safety- (stop me if you've heard this one before) - ride to the right of the road, always keep your head up - look at least 2 bike lengths in front of you, and think about what your exit plan is in case riders go down in front of you. The incident we had involved a tight section of road with no shoulder. I'd really like to challenge all new riders to think about what sort of action they would take if the person in front of them does something unexpected (like break suddenly, blow a tire, explode into a ball of flames, that sort of thing). For me, it seems much safer to take a header off to the right into the ditch then into traffic, or over the
person in front of me.

That being said, I'd really like to commend all of the rest of the women in the group who tolerated me barking orders at them and just generally keeping their cool. Glad everybody made it back safely.

Judy
