It is not my "wish". Simply a guess as to what I think most people will do.

Seems to me that the problem lies in the attitude of individuals who do not think they should
Have to make a "concerted effort" in any given circumstance.
You may get what you wish for in the closure if the attitude doesn't change.

How hard is it to actually hold your brake lever and slow down for 0.8 miles? (distance from top to bottom)

Should cyclists *always* be riding under 15mph in the cemetery? That
hill is pretty dang steep. Any cyclist will have to make a concerted
effort to keep it under 15 all the way down. Or, are we saying that
when funerals are in progress or mourners are around, cyclists should
show respect (ride slowly, avoid the funeral procession, perhaps even
get off and wait for them to pass).

The former is unlikely. If that's the expectation, they may as well
close the route to bikes now. If it's the latter, I think that's
probably do-able.

Perhaps they could close it only to downhill bikes? Downhill on
Taylor's Ferry might not be so bad.

Let me see, in the course of a typical commute/bike ride, I will encounter:
~ a family where the kids have helmets, the parents do not.
~ A bike rider riding AGAINST traffic
~ A bike rider running not just a stop sign, but a stop light.
~ A bike rider ignoring energency vehicle sirens
~ A bike rider riding in excess of walking speed on a sidewalk
~ A bike rider doing there best to get killed at any given time by riding like a dip-wad.

So yeah... it is the one or two bike riders who give cyclists a bad rap. And yes, they are the ones that the public sees.

The Portland Tribune had an article on the problems the cemetary was
having
with cyclists. If even half the allegations are true, I'm surprised
that
they haven't posted guards packing shotguns loaded with rock salt.

As usual, a few adolescent males of various ages and genders are giving
everyone who rides a bicycle a bad rap.

Note that there have been many attempts in the past to close the
cemetary
down and turn it into a development. It was built when the area was a
rural
backwater. Now that the city has engulfed it, it's just a matter of
time.

Funny. I have actually dismounted and waited for a funeral procession to
pass while riding. I have also had groups stop talking when passing a
grieving person. Are there really that many clueless folks out there? It is
a cemetery after all. You act like it's your loved one's funeral.
