Grand Fondo's are timed/scored.  I don't think De Ronde does that?  El Tour De Tucson may be the best example of a Gran Fondo in the USA, previous to Levi's event this year.

Portland needs to up it's visibility as a cycling city beyond our legendary
race scene and prowess in cycle commuting. It would amazing if Horner or
some other NW based pro stepped up to organize. I know we have STP and the
calendar is packed, but I love the idea of a rec ride like a GranFondo with
