the silent majority has given me more proof: Cross NOT Bike Racing

i'll don my Knights Templar garb and do it. my chance to expose the politically incorrect fact this race's (not "bike race's") namesake was an unprovoked military campaign against dark skin muslims to secure Jerusalem. . . note, this campaign failed. just like 'cross fails to be a "bike race".

MM had a good point and I will consider thinking of 'cross as a bike race IF they comit to using fixed gear bikes only.

I move to allow rick to enter at least one 'cross crusade series race - on foot - in order to prove just how unnecessary and cumbersome a bike really is in a cyclocross race.

I guess Stairmasters are no different then rollers now. . . . judging by the white washed walls, this pic must be from Greece or something. maybe they do do cross in europe. i'd be so embarassed if this was happening in Oregon.

Further proof that 'cross is NOT bike racing...

Actually fires are pretty rare (relative to the overall number of
crashes), but no doubt there are some people that really look forward to
a good fire.

Speaking of which here's a video of my rider from 1998 having a little
fire problem in the first World Supebike race at Monza:

This could be solved if bike racers simply caught on fire when

15,000 other people? You vastly underestimate NASCARs popularity. An
event where that few of people show up is called a practice session.
I wish bicycle racing was half as successful in promoting itself as
NASCAR. Imagine having live flag to flag TV coverage of every national
event, purses that cover more than entry and transportation cost.
Regular people passionate enough about our sport to put rider stickers
in their windows. Salaries - both riders and officials - actually above
the poverty level. Kids dreaming of growing up to be a profession
bicycle racer.

Yea, NASCAR is dumb alright...

Keeping the Mike theme going here.
Actually Nascar makes more sense than cyclocross. And the gene pool is so
much bigger... literally and figuratively. You only have to turn left. It
isasier for the spectators to watch, they get to pack in with 15,000 other
people and share the experience in the 100 degree sun. Driving those
motorized coolers from your car to the stands is always fun as well. Heat
stroke you say? Naa...just drink another Budweiser to rehydrate. Do they
make a helmet mount for two beers and a giant novelty straw?

Have you considered switching to Curling?  It's an "olympic" event, and therefore truly and legitimately international (cycling is really a euro thing and we're just wannabe's, trying to be cool.  That's why the TdF is still in France...  Monaco and Spain got tastes this year, but did the US?  Does anyone in Europe watch races that are held in the US?).

If you turned curl master, you wouldn't have to share your gene pool with those of us that are silly enough to shave our legs, and ride around in circles downtown or through a dairy field in the rain or down alleys on fixed gears or dual slalom (those guys spend so much time in the air, it can't be bicycle racing either).

Where's Joe Stark when we need him to sort these dilemmas out?
