FINALLY...Psychomud

Agreed Ron and it was sloppy fun by our 1 pm race. The mud just added to a great course with 3 sets of barriers (inc. a 4 pack) and a sandpit! Thanks to Sal and his crew for all their hard work!

Cheers,
StevenB

There is the first Cross race. Then there is the first Cross Crusade race. Then there were a couple of damp cross races. Today we had the FIRST Official WET Cross race at Camp Harlow. The Psycho Cross #2 was blessed with a dump that began about midway in the 2nd race of the day. The course showed the Jeckel and Hyde part of her personality. Strasser did an endo but came away with a smile. Riders were all over the place trying to figure out how to ride through mud, wet sand pit and slick river rock. The Junior Cross Series got the first official full race in the rain of the season! They are now veterans of monsoon cross. Mud splattered faces, butts and legs were the hot fashion statement of the day. Bide wash site was popular. It dumped on us pretty much all the way back home up I-5, so we are expecting Cross Crusade Sherwood's Virgin Crusade Course to set the tone for the rest of the season... save the frozen tundra of Bend.

My juniors were sorely disappointed that they missed this race. We would have raced in the rain/mud except one of the three bike racks on my van had issues, which put us considerably behind schedule. Then the downpour slowed us to about 20 on the freeway and we just would not have made our start time.

We are looking forward to the next cross race.

Ron,

I could not agree more! Our race started tacky/dry and went
greasy-snot after lap 1. Good changes to the course this week too. Sal is
putting on great races there at a pretty cool venue that has a lot to offer for
course options. I’m already looking forward to the rest of that series
there. I have even developed an appetite for Sal’s salty temperament!
Example: I signed up myself and both my juniors, paid my money, turned in waivers…and
Sal just barely looked up and grunted with a wry smile and said “There! You
are signed up Tim. Now go away and don’t bother me anymore…” Gotta
love a Sal Collura race!!

For those of you who are not taking the trip south, you are really
missing out. Both the Bikeattorney.com Salem series and Sal’s Pyscho
Psyries are a very different flavor of NW cross racing. They make for great
prep racing for the Crusade and if you are tired of every race having 100
riders or more in your field, give these other series a try along with the
Crusade. There are usually less than 20 riders in any field. No worries about
early line ups or call ups.
