Cherry Pie Changes - Need Feedback

Mike Murray

2009-10-22

Women can ride down categories per the rules so Cat 1 or 2 women always have the option of riding in the Cat 3 (Men) field. They may also ride in a Cat 1/2 field or an age graded field that they qualify for. If the Women race is limited to Cat 3 then the few Cat 1/2 women can't race in that field. There are not many Cat 1/2 women and they will have other options.

What is NOT allowed is mixing categories and ages for example "Cat 4 and 50+(any category)" or "Cat 4 and women" as it clearly would not be fair to have a 55 year old and/or female Cat 1 ride with the 4s.

I believe that it is against the OBRA rules to run the Women 1/2 with the
Men 3. I have pasted the rule below
Candi

6.6.3. Mixing of Classes. An organizer may offer races for combined
classifications and categories but the categories in a given race must be
the same for all age groups. All riders shall race the same distance unless
there is a distance handicapped start for separate groupings of riders.

Hey folks,

I realize the road season feels like it just ended, but Heather and I are
already in the kitchen tweaking on the Cherry Pie recipe. We need you to do
a preliminary taste test.

Based on feedback from the promoter meeting a few weeks back in Salem, we
will be making some changes to the race to:
1.) Give the women 3s their own field (women 1/2 will race with men 3)
2.) Foster an atmosphere of fun and inclusion to welcome new riders.

With that preamble, here is what we need feedback from you about:

1.) The online, pre-registration entry will be $25/$15 for adults/juniors
until the afternoon before the race ($35/$25 race day). Mail-in entry will
be $30/$20. Second race will be $10 more. Tandems will likely be $30
online, $40 race day. These are higher entry fees than usual, but the
reasons are below.

2.) No medals. No gift certificates. Instead, along with the "cherry pies"
we'll do a cash purse of about $2k going 3-6 deep for 12-17 fields.

3.) Food will be provided with each entry. The venue is owned by Valley
Catering, and they have given me estimates for a burrito/wrap meal starting
after the AM session and continuing through the PM races. Sorry, no beer.

4.) Raffle following each session's results presentation. Not sure what
this will entail. Any of you who attended Mudslingers we put on in the late
90's may recall some nice prizes along with the usual fare. We will attempt
to procure similar delights, minus the knobbies, of course.

Please reply directly to me off-list at james-fischer@comcast.net.

If you'd like to chat, then feel free to give me a jingle: 541.990.8979.

Thanks,

Jim Fischer
Heather Paris

Cat 2 women already have this option, as the "mens" is actually the "open" and women can race the women's race in their cat, the "open" race in their cat, or the open race one cat down.

Well I'm not a women 1/2 but if I was, I don't think racing with the men
3 field would make me happy at all.
