tire opinions from hillsboro

I had a Challenge Grifo up front, and Fango in the back and it did not
work well for me at all. I went down 3 times, twice cornering in
moderate mud, and once from the transition to the clean cement after
the barns. Strait away traction was very good, but it was terrible in
the corners. I was running 4 bar of presure, and weight 185.

I ran bulldogs tubeless and only slipped out one time and that was minor. They held great and I had good rear traction (with the exception of a couple of foot dabs because of traffic at the little "up" at the end of the off camber section). There are lots of good tires out there for mud.

Funny, I rode Bulldogs tubeless on stans rims and thought they performed well. I slid around a bit, but I don't think I was alone there... For the most part I had great traction both in the mud and on the cement. I do think I was running a bit to low pressure though for as much pavement as there was.

I'm not so keen on the Bulldogs. I used Racing Ralphs. Mud2s would have been great, too. I also ran tubeless, but higher PSI than last week due to all that paved cornering we had.

Howdy list.

I'm curious which clincher tires people rode yesterday and felt
performed well in the sloppies. Of course, slick mud is slick mud and
traction will probably never be great, but I'll bet certain tires
worked better than others.

I had notubes bulldogs @ about 35psi, and I survived the race with no
falls, but I really paid for it by slowing a lot through the corners
after some early front and rear wheel slippage. I had very very low
confidence in the tires, I felt like I was riding on ice half the time.

I didn't really think bulldogs were going to be the best tire with that
type of mud, and I have Muds 2s on my pit wheels, but they weren't
tubeless and my fear of pinch flatting (happened a lot last year) kept
me from using them as my primary wheels.

I saw plenty of other people on bulldogs, but I saw many more on other
tires. Anyone care to share their impressions on what they felt worked,
or was everyone pretty much dealing with equal amounts of washouts and
slippage no matter what rubber they were running?

If Astoria has similar conditions to yesterday, I'd love to be better
dialed in.

thanks!

on or off list is fine by me.
