Astoria Problems

Good idea, let's turn this whole thing into a which hunt.

OR we could let the organizers handle this and remind others to be
respectful in the future.

For those who were there, a gentle reminder may do a lot for unruly people.

For those who weren't there, idle chit-chat about how to blame everyone
within a 1 mile radius is worthless.

At the risk of inciting a riot - how do we know these were OBRA folks doing these actions (unless they were dumb enough to wear a team kit that identified them as such)? And Jess is right. How many people sat around and did nothing? That to me is the biggest crime.

Does anyone blame them?

How many people stood around these idiots and watched it happen without saying or doing anything?

Spitting on riders and throwing beer and kids....classy.

on that note, someone left a comment on the site about how their 16
year old son was racing and got a beer can thrown in his face. the
end of the comment said they were going to sell the bike and no longer
participate in cross.

Racers,

It has come to my attention that there has been some behavior at
recent races that falls below the standard that we expect from members
of our community. The foundation of racing in Oregon is our sense of
community and our commitment to respect each other on and off the
bike. It is disappointing when the experience that we all treasure,
is ruined by individuals who may not have thought of the consequences
of their own actions. Our focus is on fun but this focus comes with a
shared responsibility. That responsibility is to refrain from
behavior that is rude, obnoxious and could cause harm to other
individuals.

Good natured heckling is part of our cyclocross culture. But when
that behavior transgresses into spitting on racers, throwing objects
at racers and yelling profanity at racers, then it has gone past what
is acceptable behavior. It is unacceptable- and we cannot and will
not tolerate it. We at OBRA and the organizers of the Cross Crusade
are taking concrete steps to ensure that this type of nastiness does
not occur again. It goes against what we believe in- that cylocross
is a family friendly discipline where everyone is welcome.

I'm asking all of you to think before you act. This is not to say we
can't all have fun, it is only to remind folks that we must all
respect each other.

Thanks for reading.
