My carbon fiber road bike resembles that remark.

I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was very nice to see a professionaly produced movie about an endurance mountain bike race. For the most part the only movies I see produced about mountain bikes these days are something like "Flying Chains IV- going off the cliff!" where some 21 year old dude jumps off things for and hour to a loud heavy metal soundtrack.
The film follows a predictable plot, but it had excellent coverage of a hard race with a pretty wide cross section of racers. I would recommend seeing it if you enjoy racing you mountain bike or once did.

I'll add my opinion as a carbon copy to Ron's except with my purchasing my ticket via Fandango it cost me $12.50   I viewed it as an expensive advertisement to get your organization to arrange a showing at your event.  A fund raiser for the film's makers, marketers, and the town of Leadville.  Marginally interesting the first time through, I wouldn't pay $1 to see it a second time.

I want to support mountain bike races and mountain biking in general, but this film was NOT worth the over $12 I spent to go view it.  The race would be way over my head for sure as it is epic and beyond tough, but the general feeling I got was it was using Lance and his high profile to bring attention to the race.  I would pay $3 to rent the DVD.  The filming was not even such that the "big screen" made it worthwhile for the cost.
This is just my opinion on this film.  IT FOR SURE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY ARTISTIC QUALITY!

Right on, Evan. I'm not about to be down on an event for gaining popularity. If you can find success as a race promoter, good on ya. However, when you're supposedly only allowing entrants via lottery drawing and then hand-picking a few popular ringers, there's a word we use: Rigged.

Well leadville is an interesting event because supposedly the ONLY way to enter is through lottery drawing at the beginning of the year. A few years ago this was a race that the locals did and occasionally some second rate pros. Then Lloyd Flandis showed up and it was a big deal and next Lance. However it stands to reason that neither went through the real registration process. This year Levi was supposed to be there and of course most of the real MTB endurance guys wanted to bust their chops--me included. However none of us were allowed to race because we didn't register properly. I know of several sponsors willing to pay ridiculous sums of money and equipment to get quality riders in the event but they were turned away. Why all the blah blah background? Well it is my opinion that this event is a gimmick and a long term marketing scheme not a race. The movie and criticism seems to support this argument since it appears to be just another to build up and capitalize on nothing. If it was really a race then the best riders would be invited, welcome and racing. The outcome might be the same but the movie worth watching.

I was a participant in the event in 2004 and it was cool to get the
belt buckle and everything. I'm from there so I have to say it isn't
that great of a course and you aren't missing too much.

When I did it they barely had a web site, Dave Wiens was the most
notable pro and I still only got in to the race via the lottery
system 1 out of 3 times I applied. Even with Lance doing it, I can't
quite figure out how they are making a movie out of it.

I have not seen this movie but I find these comments interesting. Why?

YMMV
