Fixies can race CCX - with brakes

Being an Irishman, I LOVE beer and my beer tastes gravitate towards the heavier local micro brews. But, as Ron said, there is something to be said for tasting your first so called “subpar” beer after a hardcore excursion.

After summiting Mt. Hood five years ago with a group of good friends, we gazed out at the most beautiful view in Oregon soaking up the scenery and eating our traditional smoked oysters. Then, my life changed in a way I wasn’t prepared for. One of our buddies (Currier) opened up his pack and pulled out a PBR for each one of the climbing party. I thought to myself, PBR, that’s sh!t beer, but I couldn’t turn down a beer that a friend hauled up 6000’ for me. Long story short, it was the best tasting beer I have ever had the pleasure of drinking! From that point on, PBR has been the drink of choice after every CX race, marathon, mountaineering adventure and last but not least the Rod Dixon runs.

Bottom line, PBR has it’s time and place!

Do they have good pasties? I haven't had one since I left Michigan in 1999.

For you Wisconsin weirdos, if you haven't visited Saraveza beer and pasty (not pastry) shop on Killingsworth, you're missing out. Not only do they have the best selection of beer I've ever seen, the walls are adorned with all things Wisconsin. And they're open Thanksgiving Day, but only while the Packer game is on.

And Ron, they have Hamms on tap (along with Ninkasi and other outstanding stuff).

PBR used to be decent beer when it was actually brewed by Pabst in
Milwaukee. Now, who knows where it's brewed; hell, could be in China for
all we know.

What about Old Style? Is that still a legitimate beer or is it mass brewed
overseas as well? I know that Leinenkugels is owned by Miller but I think
that they still have a little autonomy. How about Point? That's kind of a

I say ride your coaster brake bike on a muddy cross course and then tell us how it works. I think you might find a few drawbacks unless you smoke a pack of Camels first... then you will be so dizzy it will seem fine.... or you will just dream you rode the bike in a race.

I think it would be totally awesome.

Hi all,

I’m Chief Ref for the Kruger’s CCX race on Sunday. Hope to see you all there. For those crazy fixie crossers, I want to make sure you know that a front brake is required.

(I, myself, will be racing a fixie at the Psycho-cross race on Saturday, but I will not be wearing jeans and I’ve been known to veer into smokers.)

Cheers,

Brian List

Portland is one of PBR's largest markets, it must be good, I see a lot
of people (hipsters ?) drinking it.

I thought about smoking a pack of camels instead of drinking some Hammer Heed.  Sure sounds like it works for "hipsters".
I think it would be totally awesome.
