Kruger's CX (Sun 11/22) - Some Updates!

For those of you who didn't receive the email I sent out earlier this week, I am forwarding you a couple updates about Sunday's races at Kruger's Farm. Also a quick reminder that today is the last day to pre-register and skip the lines on race day!

--------

Hello there!

We are less than a week away from the fourth edition of the Kruger's Crossing Cyclocross Classic and it looks like everything is falling together pretty nicely.

Like in years past, this won't be your usual cross race! Besides the challenges thrown at us by the November weather gods, you can expect a wild course that will lead you through berry & pumpkin fields, a barn, along rutted farm roads, a bonfire and a beer garden! And if today's wind doesn't wreak too much havoc, we might even throw in an "optional short-cut" through the much-heralded corn maze.

In good tradition, we'll have beer and hot food at hand, catered by Kruger's Farm Market, and free gourmet coffee, courtesy of our sponsor Nossa Familia. There will be free kiddie races for the young ones - sponsored by Fun Reflector - and throughout the day we will be raffling off a bunch of cool prizes, courtesy of our sponsors Bike Gallery and Chris King.

New this year, we will be hosting the inaugural Doggie Dog Cyclocross World Championship (DDCXWC09), a free and fun cross race - sans bikes - for our four-legged friends. We'll have prizes and treats - provided by our dog race sponsors Cycle Dog and Meat - for top finishers in each category and for the most original dog attire. Lycra dog team kits are strongly encouraged!

Here are a couple other updates I like to pass along:

1) Race schedule:
We will be following the same race schedule as the Cross Crusade series, which is posted at http://www.portlandracing.com/cx/index.html .

2) Bib Numbers - Hold on to your Cross Crusade numbers!
We will use the Cross Crusade '09 bib numbers, so please bring them with you. If you haven't raced cross yet this season or if you plan to race a new category, you will need to pick up a new bib number at the registration tent. As usual, bib numbers go on the left side.

3) Waivers & Pre-Registration:
All racers must fill out a waiver. To speed up the registration process, please bring a filled-out waiver (http://www.portlandracing.com/docs/krugers-crossing-2009-waiver.pdf). To save time and reduce waiting lines on race day, we encourage you to pre-register online at http://www.orbike.com . The pre-registration deadline is Wednesday (11/18).

4) Race Course:
Last Saturday, a couple of us went out to the farm and everything looks in great shape. The course will be very similar to last year's, though we added a couple new sections and relocated the start to the same place where we started the Kermesse races in 2008 (see updated course map at http://tinyurl.com/5nhtc5)

5) Parking:
Parking at Kruger's Farm is not unlimited, so we encourage people to carpool or bike over to the farm. Also, there will be a parking fee ($5/car). Please obey the parking marshals' instructions and make sure to bring exact change.

6) Enjoy Racing at the Farm? Support Kruger's Farm Market!
Don Kruger and everyone else at the farm have always been extremely welcoming to cyclists on Sauvie Island and Don has gone to great lengths to keep bike racing at his farm alive and kicking. One great way that the bike race community can give back to Don - besides coming out and racing this Sunday - is by supporting his business. This Sunday, all goods (produce AND merchandise) at the Kruger's Farm Market store will be 20% OFF! Make sure to bring your Thanksgiving shopping list and load up on fresh and local goodies and some great holiday gifts.

That's it. We hope to see you on Sunday at the farm for some good times, on and off the course. Bring your family and friends. Bring your dogs. Let's throw a party!

~Kris
