Maybe. I don't think so. The Kruger's work hard to try and make a
living out there on their land. One of the ways they've found to make
ends meet - being event friendly. How many farmers in the area do you
know that open up their land to be torn apart by around 1,000 crazy
bicyclists, their families, dogs, and friends?
I'm guessing the parking fee was a large part of the event permit fee
that the Kruger's "charged". It's possible they also got some
percentage of the entry fees too, but I doubt it.
Personally - I'm happy to support the Kruger's with a meager parking
fee, if that means they will continue to support and invite back events
like this.
Frankly - I'm surprised we're lucky enough to have so many event venues
that DON'T have a parking fee.
Thank you to the Krugers, and Portland Bicycling for putting this event
on. I'm glad my $5 was able to help support his venue and hope to see
it again in the future!
