scappoose night riding

Along the same vein ... My team and I trail run in Forest Park, several
nights a week (yes, in the dark). We have run into Mountain Bikers
poaching Wildwood several nights now. Every time we encounter them,
they offer the lame (obviously concocted) excuse of "Oh, gee - we must
have gotten turned around and lost...". I've tried explaining to them
that this behavior will only weaken NWTAs mission to expand (legal)
access to Forest Park. But they don't care.

I'm an avid mountain biker and often wish I could ride Wildwood. But
it's clearly marked, and clearly off limits to bikes. If you are one of
these arse-holes - please stop it. Work with NWTA to help gain legal
access to Forest Park. Quit undermining their mission and goals.

Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Regarding the single track out near Scappoose. Those who do not ride out there and do not know anyone who does.... ignore following I guess.
Last night at the NWTA meeting it was brought to my attention that a representative of the owner of the land where trails are located(Longview Timberlands) had contacted John Joy (the contact person for NWTA / Longview) and told him that mountain bike riders have been seen going/coming from their property after dark. The signs on the gates that list regulations state that the property is off limits during darkness. I am posting this not to blame, but to ask any riders that have been riding out there at night or know anyone who has done so to please NOT ride during darkness. Please let people know that riding at night jeopardizes our continued use of these trails. This property is great to have close to Portland / people living in the area. Longview Timberlands is a private landowner, not a city, county, metro or state agency. This is not public lands. They allow us to use the area, but could revoke use by bikes if they think we are not worthy of use. If nothing else we can be responsible for our own actions. Lets take care of what we have. It is a great place for riders to gain fitness, practice technical skills and gain confidence on single track.

ps.... NWTA is a growing changing group that is working toward more access for off road riding. Two people you may know are Board members (Erik Tonkin and Kris Schamp), helping build and bring positive growth to this organization once known as "PUMP". A great deal has taken place in the last few months and more is in process, but any support helps. Even just becoming a member of NWTA gives the group more leverage with regard to more single track / off road access for bikes. Just because you become a member does not mean you need to do trail work, there are many ways to show support for more access. Thanks for reading. Have a great Thanksgiving and weekend. Psycho Cross in Eugene on Sunday.... a great short section of single track in that course!
