What a great series for its first year. We averaged 27 racers per event with
a high of 39 at State Championships. 66 different kids participated, and 24
kids made the required 4 races to qualify for the series awards. Not quite
as big of numbers as I hoped, but it was the first year, and no races in
Portland. By Comparison the Cross Crusade averaged 37 juniors per race (but
the JCS averaged more girls than Cross Crusade). Washington has both our
series beat at an average of 49 Juniors per race, and at much smaller
overall attendance than the Cross Crusade (the premier Cross Series in the
Nation). How does Washington do it? Investment. A separate Junior Only Race
- No Adults. I think if we can keep this concept going we can grow the
Oregon numbers. Why would we want to do that? The future of our beloved
sport, and cycling. Cross is the best entrance to competitive bike racing
for Juniors in my humble opinion.

The awards were great. We had such great sponsorship that we had really
awesome Schwag. A great tribute and pay out to Junior racing.
I will pull together a final video summary of Race 7 and the Awards in a few
days. Thanks for everyone who helped this series happen. Specifically:

Our primary sponsors:
Willamette Valley Cycling Team
Pacific Power
Kona
Redline
Sellwood Cycle Repair & Team S&M

Secondary Sponsors:
OregonVelo
Hammer Products
Corvallis Cyclery
Northwest Multisports
Stokers Vitaworld

Special thanks to Sal Collura (Psycho Cross), Jeff McNamee, and Chad
Cherefko (Willamette Valley Cross) for providing great mid Willamette Valley
racing opportunities for this fledgling series.
And of course all the Parents who supported their kids to participate in
this series. You have great kids. You should be very proud.

Thanks again

A big thanks to all the sponsors mentioned and especially to John and the volunteers for their time and effort. This is my son's 1st cycling season and he is already talking about racing in the spring! This is the seed that was planted by this series. As a parent and racer thank you again.
