Riding at night is dangerous. What would happen of somebody slipped and broke his leg for example.

Please don't ride out there after dark.

I just received an email from an OBRA rider. Yesterday this rider and a buddy were starting a ride out there about 3:30 PM. They were at the gate when a State Trooper stopped and informed them about the rule regarding no entry (including riding) at night. The Trooper also informed these two riders that the Landowner was getting close to SHUTTING DOWN THE AREA TO MOUNTAIN BIKING if people continue to ride after dark.

I see this as a perfect example of where people who make the individual choice to ride after dark could easily end our access of a close place to ride our bikes. I have to hope that most people with the knowledge of the situation will choose not to ride after dark. Please let anyone you know who has, enjoys, or you think will want to do so in the future know what their riding at night there could do to so many other people. Ask them to please not ride after dark out there. Remember. The landowners are not bad people. They have posted rules regarding the use of the property that applies to everyone, not just mountain bike riders. These rules have been in place for many years. If you get a negative reaction from a person you inform, please try to make them understand it is not personal, but impacts all users. Mad people will go ahead and break the rules and ruin it for all. Even if "Joe rider" goes in and rides at night or "Bill and Jane" take a hike in on a lovely moonlit night... it does not make it "OK" for others to do the same. Two or two hundred wrongs do not make a right.

This rule in non-negotiable and is consistent on all of their properties throughout Oregon and Washington. It is not public land where we could try to change rules. There is really no reason work ourselves up about it, but instead just try to do what we can to minimize or eliminate night riding out there.

If this sounds preachy... it is not meant to... these are just the facts regarding this private property we are allowed to use.... as long as we follow the rules.

Thanks very much for any help with this.
