Cherry Pie Registration is open!

Rachael,

I'm cc'ing the OBRA distribution with my reply since I'm sure other beginners may be interested.

This is a VERY beginner friendly race...for a road race. The hills aren't big, the descents aren't tricky or fast, the course is relatively short (26 mi) and we are offering two Cat 5 mens fields and a Cat 4 womens field (not mixed with cat 3s).

We have a neutral start for the first mile or so ("neutral" means you have a lead out vehicle that restricts the speed to something easily managed...like 12-15 mph).

There is even info posted on the website helping new folks get oriented...how to pin your number, how to stay out of trouble once you're racing, etc.

The race is promoted by our cycling team, Pacific Power Blue Sky/Willamette Valley Cycling Team. We've got lots of 4/5 level racers who are new to the sport, and are very aware of the feelings of trepidation many new racers experience.

I'm not sure why our race was not flagged as "beginner friendly" (or what the criteria are), but if any of you are new to the sport and have questions, would like some advice about tactics, how to dress, how to stay safe during the race...drop me a line and I will try to help you out.

I will post the info to the website if it's widely applicable.

If you can point me to this grading criteria mentioned on the OBRA calendar, I'd be curious to check it out. I did a quick look and did not see anything online.

Regards,

Jim Fischer

In the OBRA calendar this is not flagged as a "beginner friendly race." can you tell me what makes it not as good for a beginner? Thanks.
