6.5 – AGE GRADED CATEGORIES
Racing age is defined as the age the rider will be on December 31 of
the current year EXCEPT for Cyclocross which will use the racing age
for the calendar year in which the Cyclocross season concludes
Age graded races are defined at the discretion of the race organizer
subject to the following:
MASTERS may be any age range 30 or older. If no age range is stated on
the Entry Form/Race Announcement the default age will be 40 and older.
JUNIORS may be any age range between 10 and 18
Youth is defined as riders under the age of 10. Youth riders may
enter only youth races and may not be mixed with other categories.
Youth races can only be held on closed courses.

To:
Youth is defined as riders under the age of 10. Youth riders may enter
only youth races and may not be mixed with other categories except as
stokers on tandems at the discretion of the race promoter. The minimum
age of a youth stoker is an actual age of 6 years, the minimum age of
the captain is an actual age of 18 years. For stokers between the
actual age of 6 and 10, the captain must be the youth's parent or
legal guardian; they may participate in any time trial or XC mountain
bike race. Tandems with stokers between the actual ages of 6 and 10
are limited to road and crit races that have a specific field for
tandems with youth stokers that must run separately from non-youth
tandem categories.
Reason:
This proposal is being brought up to allow children under the actual
age of 10 to compete as stokers in tandem events. Specifically, there
were a few instances during the racing year where tandems teams were
not allowed to compete under OBRA sanction as a stoker was under age.
