Dear OBRA members:
Although it is only May, the Alpenrose Challenge is rapidly approaching.
The dates this year are July 19-21. As in past years, we anticipate many
regional, national, and international caliber riders coming to the Alpenrose
Velodrome to compete for the prize money offered. And, as in past years, I
am asking for OBRA members (or other interested people) to open their homes
and host riders.
We are going to try and do something a little different this year, to
minimize confusion. The housing coordinators (Meg and Paul Mautner) will
try and place riders who have requested housing by June 18 directly with
hosts, about one month before the Alpenrose Challenge. After that time,
riders will be matched with hosts at the time of rider registration on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
If you are able to host riders, please let the housing coordinators know how
many riders you can host, where you live, any special considerations (i.e.
whether you have lots of dogs or cats, space limitations, etc.), and whether
you can host a rider at the time of registration if one is not placed with
you earlier.
I urge all of you in the Portland area, especially those near the track, to
host riders. This is a great event that showcases the best of Oregon
cycling in general, and Oregon track racing in particular. Besides, the
riders are a lot of fun to have around for a few days, and gives you an
extra excuse to go out and cheer on "your" rider at the Alpenrose Challenge.
