How to Free-Up a Sticky Shimano Shifter ?

Apparently, I should amend my comments with the following:

I'm assuming that it's not the cables (still sticky without them), that
you've tried lubing all the pivot points as per Shimano's instructions and
that it's due to grime and grit working themselves into the shifter body.
Both my rain rider and cyclocross rigs have ended up that way eventually.
I learned the flushing trick from other cross riders, and have revived
several sets of shifters to live another few years.

I also did this with 9-speed only, not the new 10-speed stuff. I was
assuming a similar approach would work, but may not if the guts have changed
considerably.

And third - which I assume goes without saying - is that you do this at your
own risk. Dura-Ace shifters are spendy kit, so proceed accordingly.
Granted, I was flushing shifters that had already lived a full and
rewarding life.

Chris-
Flush liberally with WD40, let dry, then lube the internals with a
good-quality grease using a cotton swab to get to all the guts. I haven't
needed compressed air to get the grit out, and it seems like that might
drive grime farther into the workings.

I'm looking for ideas on how to free-up a sticky shifter ( shimano 10 spd
sti ). If you have successfully "unstuck" a sticky shifter please let me
let me know how you did it. I'm thinking of spraying it with a very light
LPS or Tri-Flow then hitting it with compressed air, but I'd like to hear of
other success' first.

Thanks
