used sporting good store,
next adventure on MLK in portland has a lot of newer team gear, seems like some obra members sell last years team gear there pretty regularly.

so buy some shorts and attack them with a scissors and there you go.

OBRA:

Does anyone know anywhere in town where it's possible to buy a chamois sans shorts/bibs/etc? If so is there a selection and what sort of quality level are they?

Thanks,

Joe

Well if you're going back to the days of skid lids and Simplex, those were
the days where a century was only 90 miles because we couldn't accurately
calculate mileage with our slide rules and a computer was the size of the US
Bank Tower. Then they invented the transistor...

Seriously guys, let's spare OBRA Land stories of the good old days and save
it for the Old Far--I mean Guys Ride meeting at enSelle on 2/14 at 9AM. But
leave your high tech 5 and 6 speeds at home and bring your fixer. We'll
climb and descend College the same way we did in the good old days--before
it was paved and made a one-way street.

Garcia--you can come, too. The 500 Meter Club has its privileges.

OK, I'll bite on the nostalgia. Kucharik wool jerseys, shorts, and hairnet,
riding in Stockton, CA in that stuff in 100-degree heat. Mercier (NOT
Mercian) 10-speed with Simplex derailleur, Clement sew-ups on Fiamme rims.
Brooks leather saddle. Vittoria black (only color available) shoes with
wooden outsoles. Fist two helmets were a red Skid Lid, followed by the
venerable Bell V1 Pro.

Ya, I remember the old days.

Wool shorts with leather chamois, 6 speed with down tube shifters, no helmets, nailed on shoe cleats, lights with D cell batteries, and gloves that made your nose bleed when you used it to wipe.

And I remember, my first helmet was a Skidlid.

And, I remember my first century ride.  My friend and I rode from Portland to Eugene in '75 to see a Dead concert.  I bonked at Junction City.

And, I remember riding in Stockton CA in '76 and hoping I didn't get a flat...

And, I remember my first team.  The L.A. Chevrolet Sheriffs asked me to ride for them on their regional NW club team.  I was initially flattered until I found out I was going to be the needed 9th rider on club about loses it's charter for only having 8 members.  I was "rider of the year"...duh.

Oh ya, had my first synthetic chamois in '75 also.  They were nylon shorts,  and blue with big 'hiker' style pockets.

Speaking of old, I turn 50 next season so good-by KILO and hello 500!

I used to make them out of the synthetic chamois that you get in the auto shops for washing cars. Of course that was back in the old days when they were just simple pads and not the engineered wonders one reads about today. Our butts were tougher back then.

Try contacting Castelli. They are local and may have prototypes for sale.
