The best and most cost effective option is the new Kool-Stop Tectonic brake pad. They work amazing! We ran them this entire cross season.

I was having awful problems with brake chatter with a lightweight Easton EC90CX fork. Switched to V-brakes with a Travel Agent on the front. It works like a charm - no chatter whatsoever, and more braking power than my original cantis. Even clearance seems to be adequate, and I find the pad spacing pretty easy to adjust.
I have been riding it for the last two cross seasons, and highly recommend the setup.
The only downsides are that it takes a bit of time to set up the cable with the travel agent, so replacing brake cables takes an extra ten minutes, and you have to adjust your cable every 3-4 races to avoid bottoming out your lever as the pads wear.

The just-released issue #8 of Cyclocross Magazine also has a whole
article on eliminating chatter that talked about fork-mounted cable
stops and mini-v brakes being some things that worked.

I have a cross bike with an Shimano Ultegra
shifter/brake
levers, Alpha Q front fork and Avid Shorty 6 cantilever brakes. I get
violent
brake chatter when I brake hard going down hills which makes my front
brake
useless. I have changed pads styles and adjusted the toe-in many times
and am
ready to give up. I want something that is useable for cross racing.
Has anyone switched to V-brakes using a Problem
Solvers Travel Agent to fix the cable pull ratio? Any other ideas?
