What airline are you flying?
Anything Star Alliance is free bikes for international flights. The biggest hassle is usually trying to get out of the US. For example, when I have flown to New Zealand or Australia from PDX. United wanted to charge me $175 one way to San Fran where Air NZ would then fly me to Auckland. I knew the rules so I ended up having to talk to a supervisor. Saved me the cash though because its still a international flight....
Feel free to ask any questions to me off list if you would like.
Thanks
Omer

Subject: Re: [OBRA Chat] Shipping bikes to Italy?
As crazy as it sounds, I found flying my bike over on the flight (to Spain) was substantially cheaper than any reasonable international shipping options. I paid $100\bike each way to Spain, but was quoted $600 and way each way up on DHL\Fed Ex\UPS to ship them over.

Given that steep cost and unknown bikes, we're considering shipping our bikes to Italy. We have 2 hard shell cases. Looking for experience and/or advice e.g. which shipping company, cost, how long does it take, etc. Thanks in advance.
