Ron and Dorothy Strasser
I am (sore back and all) so looking forward to letting the adrenalin make my back pain go away during the Red to Red! Last year our Eastern Oregon Opener was a cold rainy start to the Rivercity Oregon XC Series. I do not know the exact forecast, but hope for somewhat more mild weather and the scent of sagebrush this opener. The folks putting this race on do a great job and also have my great respect for working so well with landowners. This course is not only fun, it also has added the East side of our state to the XC series. Splendor in the desert. Finally, all but the actual Oregon Coast area is part of our Knobby races. Pretty neat and I hope to see lots of smiling faces on Saturday. Wow.... dirt and rock season is here!
Did a quick survey of Horning's today and most of the work done last year has held up very well, so that venue is looking good as well. If we are in a pretty dry spell for that race, some fun loopers can be expected as well.
Come on body..... just get me through one race at a time... one season at a time. Thanks sponsors and promoters! Thanks Rip. You rock buddy.

Nice town and with everyone getting better than normal weather, we should see some fast racing.

Course Observers
Each Series race needs one......DO you want to race for free....contact me with the race you want to Observe and Race!
Rules and results are at www.oregonxcseries.org which goes to my site and the series page
First thing, each race will have a plate for you......don't worry, mailing the plates was very costly for OBRA and this way we can use 1-300 or ? and score you much easier. Some ST series races may have a week to week plate, and please check that particular race website for info.
Team Comp
Pistis, Sunnyside, Capitol Subaru, Team Dirt....who will win the team comp....maybe S & M.....Best 7 races as a team (your top 5 riders placing the highest count)
Things to remember about mtn bike racing
Upgrading
Please upgrade after 3 top 3's in a 15 person field for men and 10 for women, unless you are 35+ then stay at Cat 1 if you want, don;t make me upgrade you.
I will not upgrade anyone competing for the series after Chainbreaker (5th race), so if you are doing well and get your 3rd podium at Spring Thaw, you can stay in your current cat, and please upgrade asap after the Series Finals at Picketts Charge. if you want to upgrade great as you can upgrade all the way to Cat 1. Pro requires 3 top 3's as a cat 1 in a 15 or 10 person field.
Please remember that we want room for Cat 3's to move up to Cat 2 and Cat 2's to move up to Cat 1, so if you start the year doing really well, then upgrade to get in the proper category. Likewise if you are way over your head I do allow downgrades if you get trounced
Liter, Pack it out! if you get new gels from your right jersey pocket, then place your used ones somewhere else, or get a flask if you can't do that, gel bot, ect
Pass on the left or where its safe and say thanks when passing.....sometimes its tough to get around, but call out which side you are passing and communicate....you may need to borrow a pump, so be nice
No music allowed, ipods, ect....not safe for XC/ST/DH/SD On some longer events over 50 it can be allowed on a case by case basis
Most of all we have seen a great increase in riders from year to year and bring a friend, organize a group ride, bring a junior to a race and have fun.
I look forward to racing my Cat 1 35-44 butt around the state this year and look forward to seeing all of your old faces and many new ones.
See you at Echo
More to come
Mike Ripley
