Good article on BikePortland regarding this.

If you care about this and live in Beaverton take the time to drop a note to the Beaverton City Council below. This can still be appealed or put to a public hearing;

As a city councilor, be it in a small town...I too am amazed at how much a few angry people control things.
I heard about the Forest Park meetings up there and how a few people killed the trails project.
We have a couple nuts from the 9/12 group down here that waste so much of council and staff time dealing with their off the wall request.

Where are voices of reason out there...all you ever hear is the far right and left anymore

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Vocal Beaverton residents stop bike lanes

Last night was the Traffic Commission Mtg where Bvtn City Engineer Jabra Khasho presented the city's plan to stripe bike lanes down Lombard from Farmington to Denney.

Residents came out in force to contradict themselves as well as stop the plan dead in its tracks. Some of the comments were:

a) "Lower property values caused by less on-street parking."

b) "Why would you count cars on the streets? No one parks on the street because it's too dangerous. Drunk drivers slam into parked cars (contradiction of statement above)."

c) "We don't see any bicyclists riding down Lombard , so why build any lanes?"

d) "Where are the statistics that if we build bike lanes, bicyclists will use Lombard?"

e) "If we have installed bike lanes on Lombard, there will be too much traffic which would be unsafe (contradiction to statement above)."

This was tough to hear the Traffic Commission put down the plan 5 to 1 based on these remarks.

Stay tuned...
