Jim Jonke, Tom Hoffman and I finished the clean off of the area up above the lake today. Three years ago this area was... well..
the center of MUD HELL. Last year we cut a good number of water bars and removed leaves and it was much, much better. Today we finished our third day of work up there, more water bars cut and it should be very fun to ride.... I said ride... not push or carry. There are going to be two nice trees that most people will be able to ride over in that area as well. Right now the creek crossing is pretty deep.... FUN BABY! It will probably drop before race day unless we get hit hard with rain. I expect this area of the course to be in good condition even if we are in a wet period. It is rewarding to see hard work pay off in the long run.
Bob Horning has pretty much finished his revamp of the East camping area. We will be using the trail we built up above it last year and then a whole new exit out the East end of that area with some pretty neat up and down with two switchbacks to get down to the grass area. Still need to solidify some of the areas on the South side, but it looks like even more of a fun and challenging course than last year. I am starting to get excited about the course and race.
Not sure when Tom / Kris will have the info. up on website, but I am sure it will not be too long. Be patient...We still have over three weeks to go. I do know this has been good physical therapy for Tom's ankle.
