Subject: RE: [OBRA Chat] Schedule Conflicts
Hello
I am sorry about the conflicts. I understand that some people ride road and
mountain. This honestly only the 3rd e-mail I got on the subject. However
it
is impossible to avoid all road and mountain conflicts.
The reason some of the races missed each other date wise was not to avoid
road races it just happened that way.
Saturday XC races tend to get less of a turn out and downhillers tend not to
show up as much at Sunday races...Ashland was the only race I have seen that
bucked that trend.
Next year we are going to look at the bigger road races closer and try our
best to avoid them.
As far as reducing the number of events by 1/2 I find that highly doubtful,
because who has the right to tell a race in the series "hey your out of the
series" and oh by the way sorry because your out of the series your numbers
will go way down. It is a fact that non-series races do VERY badly turn out
wise. I see a couple of races dropping, but no where near half.
Thanks
Randy
Steve,
Steve,
This is a common problem with so many days of racing so early in the
season.
I would encourage you to write letters to the mountain bike
promoters and to the promoter of the VW Trek Series, Randy Dreiling,
indicating your concern.
Many of the older mountain bike promoters feel the season is too heavily
populated with races thus diluting competition and revenue. It
taxes the officials and makes promoting and racing very difficult.
I have suggested reducing the number of events by 1/2. This
reduction combined with some scheduling savvy could avoid the
conflicts your referring to.
Thanks for the input.
Regards, Jim Fischer

Candi,
As I have said before, I greatly appreciate all your hard work,
since I know there is NO WAY I could begin to have time to do what
you do, let alone as well. I know there will always be scheduling
conflicts, and I will deal with it. I would however mention that
there are a number of OBRA riders out there that are roadies and XC
mtn bike racers. I don't know how many are roadies and downhill mtn
bikers, I'd guess a minority relatively speaking. Therefore, if
possible it would be nice if consideration were given to the order
of mtn bike race scheduling such that XC races are on days that, as
much as possible, don't conflict with road races, versus the
downhill races. For instance, looking down the schedule, the June
15/16, 29/30, and July 27/28 may have avoided this conflict. Other
races were scheduled that did avoid conflicts, and I appreciate
that. I know that it is difficult to coordinate, I only ask that
you think about it. If my thinking is in the minority then so be it,
but if riders are trying to compete for BAR points, and they are
using mtn biking points (which I happen to think is more indicative
of an "overall" rider), it is tougher to do that rather than relying
just on the multiple road categories which don't seem to conflict as
much. Thanks. Steve Jorgensen

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Schedule Conflicts
There are 240 days of racing on the OBRA schedule without the cyclocross
races added in. There is bound to be some conflicts with
riders/families/holidays. Right now there is a race every day of the
week
from June 13 to August 7. I am sorry that some the road race
championships
are on the same day as the mtn bike championships. We have to do 16
categories and it is necessary to split these championships into 2 days,
I'd
like to make you all happy but I can't. It just is not possible, you and
I
have to make some choices.
I am sorry that the road race championships begin too early for you. We
are
scheduling around 2 train crossings and want to avoid a possible train
in
the middle of the race
You are welcome to try and do the scheduling
