Subject: [pumpclub] FROM NWTA: Tillamook State Forest trail work THIS Saturday
This information is provided from the Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) and is available through NWTA's website here: http://www.nw-trail.org/node/2060. Please RSVP through the NWTA website so that an accurate count of volunteers can be done beforehand to make sure enough trail work tools are available. If you forget to RSVP, please do not let that stop you from deciding to show up to the trail work party. Please show up regardless.
This Saturday (March 20, 2010) marks the start of the trail work season in the Tillamook State Forest. The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) arranges for volunteer trail work parties on the third Saturday of each month from March through October.
Due to staff reductions and budgetary constraints for ODF, this month's volunteer trail work party will be led by myself as a volunteer with NWTA and acting as an agent of ODF to conduct the trail work party. I am hoping that as the trail work party is being lead by mountain bikers, that the mountain bike community makes a strong showing for volunteer labor at this work party. Please come out and donate some time to enhancing the trails that are close to where you live. Trail work is an opportunity to give back to the sport that you love, help create and maintain trails, learn about new trails, meet other recreationalists and land managers, get some fresh air and exercise, and just plain have fun.
We will be working on the western half of the Wilson River Trail, with specific tasks determined by the number of volunteers who show up. After speaking with ODF staff, we outlined 1-3 possible tasks that will be performed on the trail west of the Footbridge Trailhead.
Tools will be supplied, but please bring your own food/water, and dress appropriately for outdoor work (long pants, closed toes shoes (perferrably boots), shirt, and other clothing necessary for the weather conditions).
We will meet at 9:30am at the Tillamook Forestry Center parking lot to sign everybody in and discuss the tasks that we will be working on for the day. We will be headed out for trail work by 10:00am. We plan to work until 2:00pm.
Kind regards,
Ryan
