Dear fellow racers, two things. First hat's off to Nathan Hobson and the Elkhorn Classic team for a well organized and timely run event. Job well done Nathan. Second thank you so much for the kind words and support as we attempt to bring back Larch Mtn after an absence. The encouragement and feedback we are hearing has made this endeavor much easier.
Here are some news updates and the first posting of start times.
THIS IS A PRELIMINARY START TIME LIST....
Final start times will not be available until after registration closes at 9:00 so the first rider can go at 9:30.
In order to accomodate racers doing cat and masters classifications (wow!!!!) the launch order will be:
Tandems
Juniors
Masters Men
Women
Cat 4/5
Cat 3
Cat 1/2
Weather:
I received a phone call today from the Multnomah County crew chief of the Corbett area road team. They spent most of Tuesday and will continue working Wednesday to clear the final 1K of the road and parking area. The expectation is very good to open the road all the way to the summit. We will receive an update later with final details. If they do not clear the summit, we are working on plans to allow the finish to remain as close to the summit/snow cap as OBRA and the county agree on under ISO-9001 and OSHA safety plans -- etc etc insert legal jargon here.
Staging area:
A fun reminder that the staging area around the starting ramp will be closed to parking, it will also have fencing along the race line as it enters the highway. The surrounding area in front of the starting line will be modestly open. We have purposely done this to allow room for wind trainers, rollers and spectators to be able to watch and cheer riders as they embark on the road to glory. No need to warm up by your car. Pull up a trainer and watch your fellow racers take off and you'll be guaranteed you can't miss your starting time either.
Local food and drink:
Don't forget that the Corbett County Market will be open all day for espresso, deli, grocery and refreshments. Located about a quarter mile from the staging area it's a great place to grab a snack before, during and/or after the race.
Juniors Length:
Again, unless there are some other ideas for junior riders, our point to point format and ODOT permits do not allow a shorter out and back junior loop. Anyone with suggestions, questions, or concerns please let us know.
Intent-to-race email:
While pre-registration is over, we are still hearing from many many people (some though are simply verbal) about signing up on race day. We understand the issues of family dinners and obligations, however, as Candi has mentioned in the past - especially for TT's - even if you think you might be considering the ponderation of consideration about the estimation of your participation, please send us an 'intent to race' email at larch.m-@consystency.net Include your Name, OBRA number, Team, and Division. It would really help us out.
As one experienced race promoter shared with me, one year he offered a preregistration and got 20 responses. Sounds good and fine you think. However, the event typically draws numbers well beyond 250 racers each year. While we have made plans for such numbers with regards to pre-registration, such day-of-event numbers would cause officials a lot of extra work helping coordinate an event that was missing for several years
