Darell C. Provencher
River City Bicycles and Team Rose City are proud to be hosting the fifth
annual Eric Kautzky Memorial Track Race on May 8, 2010.
Eric was a Team Rose City team mate that lost his life tragically on
Saturday, June 18, 2005, while out on an early morning training ride on
Tualatin-Sherwood Road. The accused 19-yr old motorist was found guilty and
sentenced to 17 months in prison for negligent homicide.
Team Rose City will honor Eric at the May 8th track race by giving our net
proceeds to the Eric Kautzky Memorial Scholarship Fund at Tigard High
School. Eric was a science teacher and a well-known athletic trainer at
Tigard High School for 24 years.
Thanks to our community of track racers we have donated $9480 to Eric's
scholarship fund over the past 4 years. So far the fund has issued
scholarships to nine deserving high school seniors who are planning careers
in exercise science or physical education.
We hope you can join us for one of the biggest one-day track races in the
Pacific Northwest. In addition, the Eric Kautzky Memorial event will also be
a Men's Pro/1/2 qualifying event for the 2010 Hellyer American Velodrome
Challenge, June 11-12, in San Jose, CA.
Thanks again for your support and interest in this worthwhile event. May all
of us, regardless of our mode of transportation, learn to SHARE THE ROAD.
