Hello OBRA members:
The Second Saturday in April is nearly here and many of you have
pre-registered for “La Doyenne of Oregon Cycling”, the Kings Valley Road
Race. Racers who have pre-registered in the past for Kings Valley will know
that unlike many events that make you stand in line even if you
pre-registered, Kings Valley has an “Executive Check-In” table for those
clever enough to pre-register. You simply stop by the table, state your
name and (assuming all is well with your entry, i.e. you have provided the
required information, signed your release form, and paid your fee) you are
checked in and free to begin your pre-race preparatory regimen.
Obviously, if you declined to take advantage of pre-registration, you still
may do so the morning of the race as we have veteran registration staffers
that are well used to processing throngs of bike racer registrations at
blazing speed.
Meanwhile, the good folks at ODOT, Benton and Polk Counties have done an
excellent job of resurfacing a good portion of the course and Kings Valley
Road Race veterans will be pleased to notice very smooth pavement throughout
the 19.5 mile circuit. We have a report of one possible pothole on the
course at around mile four which, if not repaired by race day, will be
clearly marked.
We can always use additional support drivers for the race, as we feel that
the more vehicles we have supporting each field the safer and more sporting
the races are. If you have a friend, relative, or henchman/woman who will
be at the race with you on Saturday and you’d like to have a free entry,
contact us. We pay gas costs (race mileage) and provide the best bike race
lunch in Oregon to support drivers.
Also, if you are strong, clever, or lucky enough to finish in the prizes,
feel free to hang about after the race and collect your winnings. We and
your intrepid OBRA officiating crew have a new system this year designed to
get prize results posted with extreme alacrity so that we can present cash
awards and have our annual lil’ awards ceremony shortly after each race
finish. If you need to leave before you can collect your cash, we have an
easy little form so that you can provide us with your information so that we
can remit payment to you quickly.
Cameron and I are all set for another great edition of the race and the
current weather forecast looks like more perfect racing weather is in store.
See y’all at the race!
