Hello OBRA members:
It’s the Second Friday in April and that means two things for bike racers in
the Northwest:
1) The weather in Kings Valley Oregon is now perfect for bike racing
and;
2) The Second Saturday in April and thus the Nearly World Famous Kings
Valley Road Race is tomorrow!
A few final thoughts prior to the race tomorrow:
1) Note that the Kings Valley Store no longer sells gas, so don’t
plan on getting gas in Kings Valley. Do stop in for post-race food, however
as they have sandwiches and an assortment of post-race bike racer snacks.
2) Looks like fields will be large and we like to have double wheel
vehicles for each field at Kings Valley wherever possible. If you or
someone you know will be at the race, not racing and have a suitable vehicle
for support wheels (doesn’t have to be huge, just enough to hold several
wheels) let us know tomorrow and we’ll provide free entry for a friend or
teammate.
3) Please help us retain this course for the future by respecting the
local folks before, during and after the race. Remember, it is their
community and ultimately it is the local community that decides to let us
use their beautiful course for our race every year. The major “good bike
racer citizen” requests are as follows;
a. Make use of the ample Kings Valley Commemorative Portapotties for
your “private time “needs.
b. Don’t trespass on the staging area’s neighbor’s property, and
c. Keep the finish area road clear after you finish racing. Prize
presentations will begin shortly after race finishes this year, so make your
way to the start area after you finish your race.
4) Observant readers of the OBRA ruleset will notice that the Kings
Valley Road Race has a stricter centerline rule than is currently in effect
for OBRA single day races in general. If you cross the centerline, the
officials will disqualify you if they determine that your action merits
disqualification.
5) Finally, we’d like to recognize the Therapeutic Associates Women’s
Cycling Team for helping us add an additional women’s field this year.
