The remarkable shots are far more rare than the malted beverages. I'm
in. :)

No disagreement on the differences between golf and cycling, I was just picking up on this line: "that he doesn't even provide realistic motivation to train harder."

And on that note, Mr. Cortez, we should take a "recovery day" with some "malted beverages" and see some of these "remarkable golf shots." ;-)

I think golf and cycling are very different in this respect. Golf is
all about confidence and mostly mental. I have hit some remarkable
golf shots - results far beyond my repeatable ability - just by
visualizing correctly and being/feeling "in the slot".

No matter how hard I try, no matter how much Bob Rotella I read, I
have never been able to conjure up an additional 100 watts - or
momentarily lose 35 pounds - just by thinking about it right. ;p

Mr. Z beat everybody before he clipped in, but it had everything to do
with WATTS and very little to do with WANTS.

There was a "study" a few years back about The Tiger Woods Effect. Insert your own joke here about what that might mean today, but at the time, it was that the golfer Tiger Woods was so dominant that everyone else played for second place.

http://www.slate.com/articles/business/the_dismal_science/2008/01/the_tiger_woods_effect.html

"Strong competitors are generally thought to bring out the best in everyone, but what if the competition is so strong it makes the top prize feel out of reach? Can strong competition actually undermine a reward structure? A new study by Jennifer Brown of Berkeley provides an answer to this question by looking at the world of professional golf, with Tiger Woods playing the role of the strong competitor."

I don't know Mr. Zimbelman, but it sounds like he beat you before he even clipped in.

Geri Bossen

The Bossen Family has always
prided themselves in getting results out fast. This is something Candi
taught us over ten years ago when we took over this race.

One of the volunteers (Josh Woods, dad of 3 young racers with 1 more on the way info below) was sitting
next to the officials inputting the finish times as fast as the officials
clocked them. He was able to print results as quickly as everyone in the
category completed. (See his info below if you ever need computer or website help.)

My family enjoys coming out each year to put on the Beautiful Estacada Time
Trials. The proceeds help us with the expense of the kid's bikes,
helmets, tires, tubes, repairs, entry fees and after race ice cream cones.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play with us this year. We hope to
do 2 or 3 races next year.

I rarely post to the list but I had to throw in my two cents here. As
an older guy (last year in the 50+ group), I'd be lying if I said I
wasn't looking forward to my small window of opportunity next year
before Mr Zimbelman turns 60. Some might feel that because this guy
is so far out of reach (even without my mechanical, I would have been
5 minutes behind him today), that he doesn't even provide realistic
motivation to train harder. I mean why bother, we're racing for
second, right?
I prefer to believe that the rest of us just didn't choose our parents
wisely enough and that we should check our ego's at the door. I also
would like to think that we have a very interesting opportunity to
compare ourselves to a legitimate world champ in our age group and as
such he has every right to compete there......even though I AM envious
of the talent!
