I really liked the following excerpt from the Norvil page: "... if you can replace a head gasket on a Norton Commando, you'll be able to rebuild an STI."
It's a 60's thing, kids. You had to be there. :>

This is great. I especially liked:

At this point we'll return to the original owner's claim that this lever was
just two years old and had covered 3500 miles. One is forced to conclude
that either some eBay sellers are economical with the truth or Shimano has a
serious quality control problem and the plate has not been properly
hardened. Perhaps both.
