I just wanted to remind all the ladies that short-track racing begins at PIR (see http://www.portlandracing.com for details) in a little more than a month, and that there is still plenty of time to sign up for the new Womens' Singlespeed category!
Here's what will happen if you sign up for it: Women will make a big splash, adding their energy and spirit to the grass-roots mayhem that is Singlespeed racing. The crowds will be in awe. Normally reserved grownups will cry in red-faced admiration, and children will cheer wildly as you speed by. They may even mob you for your autograph afterwards.
Here's what will happen if you don't sign up for the new category:
I, a mild-mannered bike shop purchaser, musician, artist and decidedly s-l-o-w bicyclist who only began mountain bike racing last year, could actually -- sit down now -- make the podium due to so few competitors. Imagine someone racing at an average speed of NINE mph making the podium in anything. Crazy, huh?
This could upset the delicate cosmic balance that bicycle racing depends upon. YOU can preserve that balance and make sure that things stay right with the world by signing up for Womens' Singlespeed today.
