No Race Tonite at Alpenrose

Long, Steve

Well, it's not exactly a typical Spring. This May is in the top 10 all
time high for precipitation. That's what everyone is complaining about.

Tracking the nexrad, there is this one little cell that started out as a

small blip of green in the SE over Oregon City. It has slowly started to

blossom into the bright red thunder-cell over the last 30 minutes and
has spread to Beaverton.

Weather is so frighteningly cool!

Gee. If only someone had thought of this before.

More seriously, this is something that I personally have been working on for 20+ years. There are now several other people interested who have been working on it. The Memorial Coliseum idea gets more press but there are other venues we have been looking at. The warehouse idea is attractive until you actually look at the numbers, the square foot cost (even in the current market) and the very limited number of existing buildings of that size. A roof over the existing velodrome is another consideration but is very expensive and there are structural problems with the velodrome. I could go on for a long time on this subject. If you want more specifics let me know.

place that was not cancelled when wet.  You could spread the different
races out over the week... even have a night for messenger races?  Or
find an old warehouse and build one in there.  Think outside the
velodrome or Mem. Coliseum box.  This is Oregon and we can do it our
way.  Come on track riders.  You could even BUILD A ROGUE VELODROME!
You might get Oregon Field Guide to do a story on it.

Just my knuckle-headed knobby
opinion.  You have probably considered all the options before.
