Doug, and the rest of y'all in OBRAland...
As far as I know there isn't any lobby or pressure group yet
organized. I'd suggest you call Doug Obletz at Shiels/Obletz and ask
the same question. (what can I do to help?) and publish the answer on
the OBRA list.
Even more importantly. There's a feedback function on Vera's webpage
where you can voice support for the Obletz plan (aka the MARC plan).
The other commissioners, particularly Francisconi, need some
prompting as well. The important points are that the Coliseum is an
important and needed community facility in a community that has few
alternatives for public recreational facilities. There isn't any
existing place for activities now depending on the coliseum to be
displaced to, in the event that any other alternative were chosen,
and the opportunity cost to the public of such a loss would be
staggering.
Jerry
Jerry can you give us some information on how we can work for the
indoor velodrome. If there is a volunteer or citizen group that is
working on the Memorial Project.
Thanks,
Doug

He's already figuring a velodrome into the deal. Support for a
velodrome in the colliseum ought to go both to the mayor, in the
form of support for Doug's proposal (the Public Facility Mike refs
below) and to Doug, to provide him support for including a velodrome
in the proposal as it develops.

Check out www.sojpdx.com/MARC.pdf
This is a proposal to convert Memorial Coliseum into a multi-sport
user-friendly athletic and recreation complex.
There definitely is room for a velodrome in this project.
We need to let the promoters and the City Council know that a bike
track would be a vital part of this idea.
You will be informed of our progress and show your support by adding
your name to our petition. A big list of signatures will be an
important persuader to the Council and to the planners.
