I haven't raced any mountain bike races this year but my experiences from

the last few years were that the best organized races tended to be in the

Bend area. They typically had everything on a computer just like the road

folks do. Results were done quickly, awards were almost immediate and the

courses were well marked. Unfortunately several of those are now gone.

There are a couple of races on west side of the hills, like Reehers and

Santiam that were, I think, well run. Perhaps some of the "west side"

folks could find out what software the Bend organizers are using or how

they are using it and try to incorporate that technology. It really does

seem to help.



The fees for mountain bike racing are high as hell but I don't mind forking

out for the good races, I won't however go back to a race that burned me in

any way. If a race is disorganized, runs way late or if we have to wait

forever for the awards that race for me is history the next year.

Maybe more folks should try the same thing. The bad races would vaporize

and we wouldn't have anything to yammer on about.
