I wanted to give my opinion on this subject. Although my two sons have done a lot of racing in the past neither have done any mountain bike races this year. However, in the past they too have had problems with courses being marked wrong or corner marshalls sending them the wrong way. Nothing hurts as much as training your hardest, making it to the event and being in the lead and then losing due to being sent the wrong way. So I understand what is being said.
To all the Mountain bike promoters that have had this happen in their races, please don't look at these complaints in the wrong way. Feed back, like you have gotten is what you need. No body is perfect!!! Learn from your mistakes and fix it, and you will have a more successful event. I once heard Mike Murray talking about complaints at one of his races. He actually was glad to hear about something that went wrong, so he could get the problem fixed for the next race. He said the complaint actually helped him find a problem he did not know about. Just remember, your real problem is when something goes wrong and no one complains.
The difference, I see between USA Cycling and OBRA is, OBRA is trying to fix the mistakes they have, and USA Cycling doesn't make mistakes. What a difference! I really hope that this problem can be solved. It might just be a matter of asking a more successful promoter how he does it. Or it could be as simple as asking for more imput from racers. Find out what you did right and what you did wrong. Remember you are providing a product to the racers, if they like the product they will be back!!!
OBRA is a great tool to work on this, good luck and I am sorry to hear about the mistake.
